The visit cards are the forerunners of the modern business cards. The visit cards were originally known as calling cards and they seemed to appear for the first time in China during the later part of 15th century, and spread to Europe in the early 17th century. These visit cards then called as calling cards were originally used by footmen of aristocrats and royal families, for announcing their arrival when they visited other places. The designing of a visit card is a little complicated affair as the space available on visit card is limited and also the matter to be put on a visit card is also small. Matching the space and fitting the content on visit cards calls for the utmost skill of a designer and it takes more time and effort in deciding the correct position for each component of the visit card to make it attractive and elegant in appearance. While designing the visit cards certain basic criteria are to be take care of to get a standard and well appreciated look and feel for your visit card. .As far as the dimensions of a visit card is concerned the modern visit cards come in two standard sizes namely American size and business size. The American size visit cards are available in 92 mm by 54 mm size. Both the American as well as the business size visiting cards can be used in both vertical as well as horizontal orientations as per the choice specified by the user of the card. Colors can be used as per the design requirements, and usually the use of color depends upon the type of the visit card and the budget of the user. It should be noted that the use of color decides the cost of the card. The visiting cards can be designed with single or multicolor usually 2 colors... The use of images and photos of the user makes the card to be processed differently and they have to be printed by different processes. The visit cards can be printed either on offset printing or it can be done on screen printing. The cost of the card varies as per the number of color impressions for completing the printing of the visit cards. But as a general rule, the cost for the printing cards is worked on the basis of cost per impressions per thousand cards. The type of font used to create the contents of the visit card determines how the look of the visiting card would be. But as a general rule fancy fonts and funny characters are not used in the visit cards to maintain their formal nature. Times new roman happens to be the best choice for the designing of visit cards, and the next widely used font is Arial. While formatting the contents on the visit cards usually bold and thick font settings are used for the person’s name and company names and usually smaller size fonts are used for giving the address lines and other contact details and these are usually placed at the bottom of the visit cards.
